This handbag was a treasured possession of Mildred Alexander Munro, Sandra’s grandmother.  Mildred grew up in St Mary’s Street in Edinburgh’s old town, she lived for a while in the Grassmarket until moving into a house in Ferry Road Gardens in 1946.  In 1950 she moved with her husband and 7 children to their new two bedroom house in West Pilton Park.  Mildred would have carried this stylish leather handbag with her on nights out with ‘the girls’ in Edinburgh in the 1930’s and 40’s and it remained a cherished item until being passed down to Sandra’s mother, Betty, and then to Sandra.  Inside are the remains of a broken beaded necklace and a newspaper cutting both of which had significant sentimental value to Mildred.
